Blog > A Tip for Pond Fish Feeding

Although we’ve had some wonderful days of sunshine and one or two warmer days, don’t be tempted to start feeding your pond fish on the Summer Pond Fish Food just yet. The weather forecasters are still predicting some quite cold weather so make sure you continue to use the Winter Wheat germ Pond Fish Food for now.

Summer Fish Food is high in protein, which the fish are unable to digest when the water is cold, so the food just sits in their stomach’s and rots which inevitably can cause various problems like septicaemia. Don’t be reassured by the fact that the pond fish come to the surface to eat the summer food, they will eat it, but they will not be able to digest it.

Our advice is to wait until the pond water temperature is consistently warm enough i.e. above 12ºC.
